March 8th is International Women’s Day and OXFAM are encouraging us to get together with our friends, have some fun and raise some money to help some of the world’s most vulnerable women and children. Much of the work which I have been involved with over the last 12 months has really brought it home to me just how lucky we are and just how often we take that for granted. It really isn’t difficult to extend a helping hand to women around the world and this is a perfect opportunity to do just that. Small things do help!
Why not take this opportunity to arrange a Get Together with some of your friends and encourage each of them to make a small donation to mark International Women’s Day? You could hold a coffee morning, a clothes swap, a pudding party (I like this one!), a film night, a book swap or you could go bigger and organise a jumble sale, a ceilidh or a barn dance! Sign up for your fundraising pack on the Oxfam website and help them to continue their invaluable work. Just £135 trains 5 teachers who between them teach over 250 girls, encouraging them to stay in school. By educating these girls they provide a whole generation with skills to work their way out of poverty. I find that inspiring and £135 doesn’t sound like a lot of money to achieve so much!
